In September, 2002, I finally returned to EPCOT. A lot changed since the last time I was there
in 1990. Horizons is gone. The fancy moving screen at the Universe of Energy is gone too and replaced with a dumb sitcom. Kitchen Cabaret? Its called "Food Rocks" now and it doesn't. (who can forget "Vegi-fruit-fruit-vegi-fruit-fruit") The new space ride wasn't open yet when I was there.
But the biggest change, and the reason I returned, was to see the "new" "Journey Into Imagination", featuring Figment...
To this day, I can recall the original ride almost in its entirety - including all the special effects and neat animations on things like the dreamcatcher. Today, a year and some months as I finally post these pictures on the internet - and I can't recall much about the "new" ride at all.
Gone are Dreamfinder, the dreamcatcher, and playful figments that did everything from spelling the words "BAT/CAT" to painting a rainbow. Dreamfinder was a better storyteller than Dr. Nigel Channing. But at least Figment is back (he was gone in the second incarnation of the ride that everybody poo-poo'd), along with the song "One Little Spark". Enjoy the pictures and I apologize for the poor quality of the darker scenes. I opted not to use a flash to save everyone's eyesight on the ride.
More Figment-related info and movies of the rides can be found at: www.figmentsimagination.com
Oh, and when I was there, I visited Figment five times - once to see the ride, three to photograph it, and then a final time right before the park closed. :-)
